My work mainly involves:

Prepare, enhance and catalogue materials into PDN.

Updating the calendar, events, on the latest meetings, workshops, conferences, trainings.

Updating the latest contacts details of people in the disaster risk management field.

Provide support to meetings, workshops, conferences and other activities as required.

Prepare PDN Local editions
- Testing and providing inputs for any new developments in PDN
I joined SOPAC in May 2007 as a Temporary Junior Researcher and as of January 2011 I am a Research Assistant for Pacific Disaster Net.
I have a Diploma in Library Information Studies from the University of the South Pacific. Currently I am undertaking a Bachelor of Commerce majoring in Management, Industrial Relations and Human Resources at the Fiji National University.
Sereima Kalouniviti - Researcher

This mainly involves

downloading and enhancing documents or materials that are relevant and maybe important as information for the Pacific Islands region that will serve as readily available information for users of pacific disaster net when preparing for or responding to natural disasters in the region.

to receive and follow up on the latest available information from relevant sites and organisations

updating the events database as it happens.

at times updating the calender events on the latest meetings, workshops, conferences, trainings etc.

a bit of cataloguing when the need arises or if there are priority materials that needed to be uploaded on PDN.
I joined SOPAC on the 28th of January 2008 as a research assistant.
Before joining SOPAC I was a student at the Fiji Institute of Technology and had worked as a research assistant for the Institute on Stream Health Monitoring and Assessment to produce an assessment kit for Fiji now known as the SHMACK Kit. Holding a Diploma in Environmental Science from the Fiji Institute of Technology and a Bachelors in Applied Science ( majoring in Environment) under the Auckland University of Technology.
Shabnam Shainaz Ali - Research Assistant

Which mainly involves:

Support researching relevant documents for Pacific Disaster Net

Preparing, enhancing documents - i.e. converting to pdf format, checking file size, renaming, resizing etc

Cataloging documents - collecting and providing the bibliographic information for each document, following international standards and rules and uploading them on Pacific Disaster Net
- Calendars - adding of any meetings, conferences, courses and trainings relating to Disaster Risk Management and Climate Change Adaptation

Events - set up event records from the Alerts and other sources

Contacts - adding and updating contact information

Provide support to meetings, conferences, workshops, conferences and other activities as required

I joined SOPAC on the 10th July 2008 as a Junior Researcher.
Before I joined SOPAC, I worked at Caines Photofast Services in Ba. I was in charge of Ba Branch; my duties included taking photographs, handling cash, banking, customer service etc. In 1994 I joined the Suva branch and worked as a sales assistant. I resigned in 1998 and joined SOPAC in 2008 after 10 years of family commitments. I have a Certificate in Basic Skills in Library/Information Studies from University of the South Pacific (USP) and Certificate of Accomplishment in Office Assistant from APTEC Worldwide. Currently I am undertaking Diploma in Library and Information Studies at USP.
