Title: For Safer and More Resilient Pacific Island Nations and Communities
Requested by: Pacific Islands Applied Geoscience Commission (SOPAC) on behalf of the Pacific DRM Partnership Network.
Organization(s) presenting the exhibit: National Disaster Risk Management Offices and members of the Pacific Disaster Risk Management Partnership Network, such as: AusAID FSPI, IFRC, NZAID, Oxfam, Pacific Conference of Churches, SOPAC, SPREP, SPC, TAF/OFDA, UNDP, UNICEF, UNISDR, UNOCHA, WHO, World Bank, World Vision, and many more.
Contents of the Exhibit: The exhibition booth will present a broad spectrum of disaster risk management initiatives currently undertaken in the Pacific region with the aim to share lessons learned, good practices and new approaches. The topics covered by the exhibit will include:
- Regional and national DRM strategies and action plans;
- DRM tools and guidelines;
- Technical and scientific reports;
- DRM awareness material and information brochures;
- The Pacific Disaster Net;
- Posters and film spots;
Some of the information displayed at the booth will be available free of charge. The booth will serve as a meeting point for everyone interested in the unique context of disaster risk management in the Pacific region where nations and communities are exposed to enormous environmental and economic threats from natural hazards and the impacts from climate change. The members of the Pacific DRM Partnership Network hope the exhibition will provide opportunities for establishing new contacts and for expanding its partnership to new national, regional and international DRM experts.
