Issued from the National Weather Forecasting Centre Nadi at 3:30pm on Thursday the 5th of 
April 2012 
 
Situation: 
 A trough of low pressure with associated cloud and rain remains slow moving over the western 
part of Fiji. 
Forecast to midnight tomorrow for the Fiji group: 
Occasional rain, heavy at times and few squally thunderstorms over Viti Levu, Kadavu,    
Southern Lau, Yasawa and Mamanuca group. Elsewhere, some showers especially in the   
Afternoon or evening.  
Moderate northwest winds, gusty at times.   
Outlook for SATURDAY: Rain and thunderstorms over most places.

Evacuees’ reasons for remaining in Evacuation Centres as per District EOC’s 
advise: 
i.
 
Water restoration – most places have no water and water carts no supplying 
water to areas 
ii.
 
Accessibility – Some people up in Navosa currently in Evacuation Centres in 
Sigatoka and have trouble returning to their respective homes 
iii.
 
Transportation – finding suitable mode of transportation both in the East and 
West banks 
iv.
 
Some places are still unsuitable to return to – stagnant water and silt still in their 
homes/ communities 
v.

5.1 
Manpower deployment to the West: 
72 personnel will be deployed. 3 teams per sub division, consisting of one medical officer, 1 
dietician, 1 nurse and 1 environmental health officer. 
Western Division EC coverage. A HI. MO, Nurse and Dietion are in the team with other stake 
holders. For N/N, Nadi, and Ba 100% coverage should be attaint by COB today. Reinspection 
has started in Ra Tavua and Lautoka.

The total scope of flood damage in the Western Division at this point is still not 
very clear due to constraints in communication. Most of Western Division is still 
without power and water. Some of the flood affected schools are also used as 
Evacuation Centres.

Completion of cleaning up campaign and returning of evacuees to their various
