Situation: 
 
Floods caused by a tropical low depression of 1004 hectopascals located near lat.10.6 
degrees south and longitude 160.0 degrees east, approximately 50 nautical miles north of 
Rennell, and 50 nautical miles south of Guadalcanal. Heavy flooding experienced on 
Guadalcanal, Isabel, Makira and Malaita. Some landslides reported on south Guadalcanal 
and south Makira. No reports from other Provinces.

Total: 15,242.

Makira-Ulawa Province : 
a)
 
A four-man team (Works, Police, Agriculture, OBM driver) of the Makira-Ulawa 
Provincial Disaster Committee conducted assessments from 2
nd
 – the 8
th
 of February and 
forwarded its report to NDMO on 17
th
 February.

Piruma Landslide: 
1 3-bedroom house and a kitchen were buried at Piruma village by two 
landslides that produced 3 metres thick of soil rocks and trees. The 
landslide reportedly covered an area 5 metres long and 3 metres wide. 
Very few belongings of the owners of the house were recovered. The 
family of 5 that lost its house is now living with relatives some way away 
from the devastated area.

The water supply at Piruma was also damaged.

Those affected are currently experiencing food shortage, poor drinking 
water, shelter and health related problems.

The heavy rains caused by the recent bad weather caused water logging, 
flooding and landslides causing extensive damage to food gardens, cocoa 
plantations, water supply and some houses, according to the report. 
 
The report also estimated a total cost of $40,510.00 for repairs to water 
supplies in Apurahe, Taraogiogi and Bagarei villages.
