UNOCHA update no.7 on Solomon Islands January 2010 earthquake

Here is some update on international response: 
 
The New Zealand government provided $NZ 50,000 to support emergency and 
recovery activities. 
 
WHO is assisting the Ministry of Health with the launch of a surveillance system 
to monitor the health conditions of affected population. WHO and MOH is 
preparing for a campaign to respond and prevent health problems in the affected 
areas.  
 
World Vision continues to support NDMO in assessment especially in shelter 
sector and is providing additional shelter and NFIs. 
 
Oxfam also provided further shelter, WASH and non-food items.  
 
ADRA deployed a team including health promotion workers to provide support in 
health and WASH sector. 
 
UNICEF provides support in several sectors:  
-Education: Provision of tents to the Ministry of Education to act as temporary 
classrooms. Save the Children will support installing the tents. 
-Health: Provision of basic emergency health kits and 300 additional sachets of 
ORS to Ministry of Health (MOH). Distribution of these items will be managed 
by Helena Goldie Hospital. 
-WASH: Provision of 9,000 water purification tablets with flyers and 1,000 
“hands” flyers. Distribution will be managed by ADRA and MOH.
