'Ready yourself'
Sunday, January 03, 2010
PREPARE yourselves now for another cyclone, says the national weather office,
because the New Year heralds the start of Fiji's peak cyclone season.
Director Meteorology Rajendra Prasad says at least two cyclones are expected
to pass close to Fiji.
"We expect indirect effects from cyclones there while there is a possibility of a
direct effect," he said.
"The area to the north of Fiji is quite active. January to March is the peak cyclone
season."
"A trough of low pressure moved over the group (yesterday morning)," he said.
"Expect rain about the Northern, Central and Eastern parts of the country. These
warm and moist conditions will continue for most of January," he said.
"Expect further rain and low pressure systems in January."
