Commentary – cont.
This set of arrangements will:
•
It will provide a framework for the coordination of SI Govt agencies
across levels of Government and into the community
•
It also provides a framework for embracing support from partners, NGO’s
and civil society
•
It is based on this model for DRM adopted by SI Govt to inform its new
DRM arrangements:

Disaster Risk Reduction & Disaster Management in
Solomon Islands
Commentary – cont.
•When this is in place we will have a strong “National Mechanism for Inter-
Agency Coordination”
•which we will expect Sub-regional, Regional and Global Mechanisms to
work through
• and the efficiency of coordination for disasters and recovery should
improve dramatically
DRM=
Disaster Risk Reduction & Disaster Management in
Solomon Islands
Commentary – cont.
•We are embarking on implementing our national framework and have a
three year work program ahead of us
•Donors and other partner agencies are sceptical about whether we can do
this
•However we are committed and need your support
•Please work your arrangements to fit our structures
Can we work together on this in-country?
